"Key words: Shepherd, advise, learn, wisdom, reflection, beliefs
Although the name of this card is Teach, it brings the dual energies of both teaching and learning. You have much wisdom to offer regarding affairs of the heart. This wisdom has been gained through all your joys and your sorrows. At this time there may be an opportunity to assist someone reagarding a relationship. That person may even be you. When the opportunity arises, remember the shepherd -- one who gently guides his sheep along the desired path. Use that same gentleness in guiding yourself or others. There may also be an opportunity to learn right now. This could take place in many ways, through conversations, observations, or even reflection. Take a moment to reflect on what you have already learned about your relationships and what you still want or need to understand. Then seek a teacher who will help you arrive at that understanding. The downside of the Teach card is when our "teachers" want us to blindly follow their direction. In relationships, this often leads to restrictions and disappointment. These "teachers" come in many forms...family, friends, society, and so on. If a relationship is not going smoothly, maybe it's time to examine the beliefs, or have you unintentionally accepted the beliefs of others, beliefs that no longer serve you? Affirmation: In matters of the heart, I offer what I know, learn what I don't know, and remain true to myself. Traditonal tarot archetype: Hierophant The Psychic Tarot for the Heart by John Holland

"Key words: Reflect, accept, decide, clarity, responsibility, fairness
Sometimes our ego prevents us from seeing events clearly. It's time to detach emotionally from a relationship or situation so that you can step back and reevaluate. Reflect upon how the relationship is working. Is it satisfying? What role do you play in its harmony or disharmony? An honest appraisal is required in order to gain clarity and help you better understand what might need to be done to improve it. This is true even if the relationship is already a good one. It's important to accept that your previous actions, decisions, and beliefs have led you to your current situation, whether it's pleasant or difficult. We do steer the course of our lives, although often without conscious intent. By assessing your situation and accepting responsibility for it, you're able to free yourself from the need to blame another person or Destiny. There's no guilt associated with this card -- only clarity and empowerment. Once you've detached yourself from and examined a relationship, lack of relationship, or other matter of the heart, you're in a better position to decide what your next step might be. Remember that the Detach card knows no ego. Decisions arrived at as a result of drawing this card must be fair and balanced for everyone involved. Affirmation: I accept the role I play in creating my relationships and my life. Traditional tarot archetype: Justice" The Psychic Tarot for the Heart by John Holland "Key words: Expansion, freedom, confinement, decision
Energies of expansion are around you now and, because of this, you may be feeling restless and uncertain. Your mind and soul are ready to soar, but you may feel confined by certain relationships or certain aspects of them. Although they may be comfortable and feel safe, it's possible they don't quite fulfill your needs. Even the desire to be in a relationship can be restricting because it becomes your focus and you forget to live your life to the fullest. Sometimes when you think you have all that you could ever want, you realize that you now want something else. Perhaps a relationship has grown a little too restricting or it's not exciting enough, or maybe it no longer meets your needs as you've evolved and changed. What will it take to allow you to feel unrestrained and joyful? Listen to your heart. What do you really want? Remember to make any needed changes with love and compassion." The Psychic Tarot for the Heart by John Holland "Key words: Fear, question, explore, courage, illusion, clarity
Introspection and clarity are important at this time. Feelings that have lain dormant are now coming to the surface. They have been part of your subconscious for some time. They're referred to as your "shadow" self and represent all of your fears and delusions regarding matters of the heart. You may have concerns about examining these issues, but know that when an issue rises to the surface, it's ready to be faced and healed. Have the courage to acknowledge and confront these newly emerging feelings. Look at them from all sides, and try to determine where they first came from. When and how were they planted in your subconscious? Question the validity of these feelings. Often they were based on your childhood imagination, and are no more than illusions. They're not appropriate for your adult relationships, yet they persist. They're not based on reality, but they're powerful influences and can affect your relationships in major ways. They can even prevent a romantic relationship from manifesting. Have the courage to explore your beliefs and misconceptions about love. You may find that these emerging feelings are based not only on your limited perceptions, but also on what you actually saw or experienced as a child. Know that whatever your reality was then, it does not have to be your reality now. You are no longer that person. Examine these feelings and gain clarity on who you are and what is true for you regarding your relationships. Affirmation: I examine my feelings about relationships and release what is no longer my truth. Traditional tarot archetype: Moon" The Psychic Tarot for the Heart by John Holland "Key words: Withdrawal, blocks, control, release
Sometimes past sorrows cause you to withdraw -- both from your emotions and from other people -- as a way of preventing further pain. However, this closing up or shutting down prevents a free flow of energy from and to you, interfering with the ability of the Universe to fulfill your desires. When this card appears, it suggests that you may have blocked or closed off your energy field in some way. Have you let sadness or fear prevent you from moving forward into more satisfying, loving relationships? Release this blocking energy by working with affirmations, prayers, and your Spirit Guides. The more you open up your energy field, the sooner you will receive what you desire. Also watch out for the need to control. For relationships to thrive, the energy must be free flowing. Everyone must have the right to self-expression. When you open yourself up, you allow your relationships to grow and evolve." Balance is important in all aspects of life, but it is especially important in relationships, both with others and with yourself. This card suggests that you examine your relationships to see if they are truly in balance. A healthy relationship should include time to be together as well as time to be apart. Take some time in peaceful solitude to renew your acquaintance with yourself. Acknowledge what you bring to the relationship and what your partner brings to the relationship. Ensure that you both play an equal role and that no one person dominates. Compromise is required in order for a relationship to be harmonious. Be willing to give and receive. By finding the middle ground, you'll help to ensure that your needs and the needs of your partner are met. Compromise also includes accepting that people are individuals with different personalities and ways of looking at the world. Embrace your differences; rejoice in your similarities. If you find yourself at odds, be willing to work through issues honestly and with love, confident that your differences can be resolved. This is an excellent time to help heal discordant relationships by bringing them into better balance. If you're seeeking a romantic relationship, balancing aspects of your own life will open the way to new love. Also making sure that your relationships with family and friends are in balance will set the tone for the new romance that is on its way to you. Affirmation: I embrace our differences and bring balance and healing to my relationships. Traditional tarot archetype: Temperance" The Psychic Tarot for the Heart by John Holland "Key words: Act, direct, master, discipline, focus, effort
Now is the time to be proactive regarding matters of the heart. If you're looking for a relationship, take the initiative to find one. Take advantage of the many ways to meet your soul mate. This card is about action, action, action! If your current relationship is not moving in the direction you wish, do whatever is required to shift the direction. You're the master of your own destiny -- and that includes your relationships. Don't wait for others to make the first move or set the tone of the relationship. Take charge! Creating and sustaining a good relationship requires discipline. It's not enough to be "in" a relationship -- you must "invest" in it as well. Be present in and focus on the relationship. Give every relationship the opportunity and time that it needs and deserves to flourish and grow. Now is the time to focus on your needs and the needs of your partner. Make the effort to maintain healthy boundaries for yourself and to respect the boundaries of others. While rewarding relationships require effort, there must be a balanced effort from both partners. Perhaps it's time to examine your relationships. Are both partners putting forth equal effort to make the relationship work? Are you comfortable with the amount of effort relationships require of you? If any relationship feels draining or it's "not worth the effort," then perhaps it's time to move on. Affirmation: I take charge of my relationships. Traditional tarot archetype: The Chariot" The Psychic Tarot for the Heart by John Holland "Key words: Confidence, achievement, inspiration, recognition
Faith is powerful and can bring about amazing results. It's important at this time to believe in yourself and in your aspirations regarding love. Think and act as if all that you desire is inevitable! Your confidence will send a signal to the Universe that you are ready to have that perfect relationship with a spouse, partner, parent, sibling, child, or friend. The energies of success are around you. Use them to achieve your dreams! A lighthouse shines its light as a beacon to passing ships to help them navigate the surrounding waters. At this time, you can be a beacon to others. By acting confidently and being victorious, you can inspire your loved ones to reach out for what they desire. Recognize your power to affect people in positive ways. Congratulate yourself for this ability, and honor that same ability in others." The Psychic Tarot for the Heart by John Holland "Key words: See, hear, sense, quiet, intuition, knowing
Take a moment to quiet your mental chatter and listen. In relationships, it's important to pay attention to what the other person is really saying. Too often in conversations, you're already planning what you're going to say while the other person is still talking. You make assumptions about where the conversation is going and plan your part of the conversation accordingly, even working the conversation to a desired outcome! When this happens, you don't truly "hear" what the other person said, and in doing so, you weren't present for that person. Listening starts with becoming quietly, centered, and totally present. Listening involves many senses. Use your eyes to see the body language of the other person. Use your ears to hear not only the words spoken but also the tone used to express them. Use your intuition to get a sense of what the person is really saying and feeling. Intuition often helps you hear what is not said as well as what is said. This is crucial to understanding the person or situation. Understanding is essential to improving the relationship or situation. Remember once again to center yourself and use all of your senses to understand what is actually being communicated. Listening is a gift. Give this gift to your partner, parents, children, friends, co-workers, pets, and anyone you meet. Most important, give this gift to yourself. Tune in to your mind, body, and soul. Are you listening? What do you hear? Affirmation: I honor myself by being present and truly listening to the messages I hear.
